ed: What say, will this cause a slowdown of FF and other browsers
adoption? Or will it fizzle? I think from what I have read this
will be pushed in automatic updates, so we can see this on some
huge number millions of desktops pretty soon.
Depending on how picky you are as a web developer, Wine may not be good enough. I'm thinking in particular about font rendering. Also, when you discover a novel bug in IE, you have to trust that it manifests itself the same way in Wine and Windows. I discovered a while ago that you can't download or play audio files in IE/WinXP from a password protected or HTTPS website. It seems to have to do with the interaction between IE and Windows Media Player. If I were using Wine, I would have thought it was a bug in Wine and ignored it.
As for me, I use VMWare for WinXP/IE7 and an old laptop for WinXP/IE6.
