Researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Lab and Carnegie Institution of Washington have modeled the effects of planting trees at various latitudes to combat global warming, and found that the tropics are the best location, while planting at the higher latitudes has zero or little effectiveness.  At higher latitudes where there is snow cover in winters, forests were found to be counter-productive!

The issue when considering mitigating global warming has to do with tree's ability to trap heat near the ground, the scientists found.
