Seymour Papert in a coma after being struck by a motorbike

Seymour Papert, 78,  a professor emeritus at MIT was seriously injured on tuesday after being struck by a motorbike while crossing a busy street near his hotel in Hanoi where he had been attending a conference.

Officials at French Hospital said that Papert is currently in a coma in stable but critical condition. He has undergone brain surgery to remove a blood clot that had formed.

Papert, a south african native is a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence and is an expert on how computers can aid children learn as well as being one of the creators of the logo programming language.

Since his retirement Papert has been an advisor to MIT Media Lab's OLPC project.
