After weather related delays, Steve Fossett's latest
attempt at another world flying record got off the ground
today at 7:22 EST. His latest adventure is to fly the furthest
distance solo, a record currently held by Dick Rutan and Jeanna
Yeager.

USA: At 07:22 (local time) this morning, record-setting
pilot Steve Fossett set off down the long runway at NASA's
Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility in his Virgin
Atlantic GlobalFlyer single-engine jet. His target - the longest

I wonder how much sleep he'll get this time? Autopilots are really good these days, GPS and all. And they don't call you on the radio too often when you're over the ocean.
He's flying solo, but Rutan and Yeager do not hold the record for the longest solo flight — they have the record for the longest flight by an aeroplane.
