A study conducted in both the UK and the U.S.A. of over 130,000  children borth in Israel found children of men over 40 had six times the rate of autism in their children than those under 30.  The number of children with autism and related disorders is now ten times that of 20 years ago.

Perhaps more proof of a male biological clock, or there is the possibility of ethnicity component as all samples of data taken in one country.  Nevertheless, there have been other studies linking older parents with brain development problems.

Why has autism become so prominent the past decade or two? Well, obviously there is some to do with diagnosis - cases of autism are being properly diagnosed that would not have been just a few decades ago. But, the fact that (at least in the US) people are having children, on average, later than ever before makes this study monumental in understanding the causes and preventions for children born with Autism.

Another score for science!

It's also explainable by the hypothesis that autistic guys find it harder to obtain partners earlier in life.

No, I'm not suggesting this as viable.  But the point remains that the post hoc fallacy is alive and well.
