Without question the most Constitutionally bent and driven member
of the US congress,
Representative Ron Paul, has opened an exploratory committee
by filing to judge his prospects for the 2008 race.
"Ron
Paul, the iconoclastic nine-term congressman from southeast
Texas, took the first step Thursday toward launching a second
presidential bid in 2008, this time as a Republican."..more

ed: most interesting. For those who aren't aware of him, he
is the major thorn in the Rs side on things (because he is
traditional, not even close to being a neocon), and he keeps
getting re-elected despite the top R party ignoring him. The
grassroots really like the guy. He said previously he didn't
want to run again because of perceived actual physical threats
(he is a big threat to the established
scam banking industry and various power brokers, because he tells
the truth about things from the economy to the wars, etc), but
apparently he has changed his mind.
I looked to see if there were any websites for a potential run up
yet, one has just been parked, but I don't know if it is
official, it could just be a squatter. I imagine the real one
will show up shortly off his main page.
Does he know what he's getting into? Look at McCain, 2000, South Carolina. If he gets a Perot-style wave of popular support, we'll see the media jammed with the smear campaign of the decade.
I've done some research into this guy, and I figure he's about 80% of what I want in a candidate. Compare that with 3% for Bush and 2% for Gore. Paul sounds like the only Congresscritter who actually understands the Constitution and what the government's role is supposed to be. He has my vote.
Incidentally, I noticed that all usual TLDs for ronpaulforpresident were bought-up on Wednesday by various parties. I hope they didn't all get swallowed up by cybersquatters.
On January 17, Ron Paul gave his first radio interview since the announcement of his bid for the 2008 presidency. He appeared on the Alex Jones Show, interviewed by Jack Blood. Listen here: http://prisonplanet.tv/audio/170107paul.mp3
