When the last big wildfires broke out around San Diego in California, there were already in place numerous wireless cameras all connected to the High-Performance Wireless Research and Education Network. Many of these functioned well into the fires spread and provided critical information which was used to advantage by the firefighters and also by homeowners to check on their properties and neighborhoods after they had evacuated.
