The US Food and Drug Administration is falling behind because of
lack of funding and an inability to keep up with scientific
advances and the sheer volume of
foods and drugs it is supposed to be overseeing. A new report
outlines some of the failure points and offers recommendations.
.."The U.S. Congress passed more than 100 laws expanding the

Interesting stat in the article and the PDF linked download
paper, they oversee one trillion worth of goods with a two
billion dollar budget. I also think they need to get it straight,
maintain a better separation between the USDA and the FDA,
perhaps remove the F-food part from the FDA entirely and stick it
in ag where it belongs. That might help some. The way it is now
starts to look like the department of redundancy department.
It makes no difference which part of the US government oversees this as long as the interests of the corporations trump the interests of the individual citizen. Also if the FDA actually levied the fines allowed by law and then followed through and actually collected them I doubt there’d be much a of a budget shortfall.
