A responsible use law passed last year in Brazil has gone into
effect and both environmentalists and some loggers think it is a
good idea.
Wanting to both exploit and preserve the rainforest as much
as possible, they will be cataloging all the available public
areas that will be opened for logging, and the companies have to
develop a sustainability plan to go along with access. They hope
they can provide good jobs and valuable products on into the
future if they manage it closely.
