The first major human clinical trials of an experimental HIV vaccine, one that seeks to have the body immediately produce enough T cells to kill the viruses, has been halted by the parent company Merck and the NIH. It just didn't work, in fact the test group had a slightly higher rate of infection in the over all high risk group than the dummy placebo group with the same demographics..

.."Merck and the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, an international collaboration of researchers and institutions funded by the NIH, co-sponsored the study. The experiment, called STEP, began in December 2004 and had enrolled 3,000 volunteers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Peru, Puerto Rico and the United States."..more there
