An interesting study of Hong Kong residents and mortality rates with influenza has shown that those who partake moderately in exercise do the best in surviving a bout. Frequent exercisers and those who never exercised at all fared the worst, and were almost identical in the statistics.

.."When compared with never/seldom exercisers (Figure 1), the low/moderate exercisers had lower odds of mortality (crude odds ratio 0.62) during influenza epidemics; while frequent exercisers did not show any difference from never/seldom exercisers, with a crude odds ratio close to unity (0.95)." full open access article there

ed.z.:Weird, huh? Maybe people who exercise a ton there just get exposed more and might exercise to near exhaustion all the time, and exhaustion makes you temporarily weak. Heavy exercise could be just more breathing, faster respiration, leading to more potential in a public gym maybe to suck in influenza virus....or something
