A Chinese businessman who founded his solar PV company in 2001
and is now the first
"solar billionaire" is saying the future is bright
for solar, as long as governments maintain an interest in it and
it translates into consumer adoption. He is convinced it will
help not only with the world's energy mix, but with the
environment, and his drive is partly fueled from watching the
environmental degradation and changes in the area where he grew
up.
....Ultimately, though, Shi believes the elements are on his
side. "If you look at the outlook of the energy structure,
there is nothing to stop us growing. There will be bumps and
competition and price pressure, but sunshine is
unlimited." ed.z.: Here is his website: Suntech. I did a bit more
googling, it is still expensive at the individual panel full
bloat retail price level, around 5 bucks a watt, and all the
manufacturers are around that price. We need better policies
using the net to get the prices closer to wholesale for
individuals. Just my opinion, but that is one of the big promises
with the net and commerce, really connecting people directly,
without having to jump several middleman hoops. Perhaps net
connected solar panel purchasing co-ops?
