Russian researchers using modern submersibles have reached the
bottom of the deepest lake in the world, Lake Baikal,
reaching a depth of 1592 meters. This is just the start of a
series of extensive explorations of the lake, hundreds of dives
are planned now.
The lake holds over 2,600 various species of animals and
plants, two thirds of which cannot be found anywhere else in the
world. It is around 25 million years old. ed.z.: Slick!
It's not humans exploring Mars, but it is humans exploring an
alien world using high tech-close enough!
